New Bloods
Really great video by Vim Crony for New Bloods.
The New Bloods are a really great lady trio hailing from Portland.
I had become dissuaded by music altogether for many, many months before stumbling upon the Oct.9th issue of MRR- "The Queer Issue".
"Okay, " I thought, "I'll read it; give this shit a try."
By that point I was definitely not into music anymore, but I was still totally queer politics. So I gave it a try.
I started from the beginning- at the columns. I flipped through, selectively chose what I was going to read and what I was going to put on the back burner for later and it didn't take long until I stumbled upon the Shotgun Seamstress article by Osa Atoe. It was so interesting to hear a woman older than myself speak about life and music from a female perspective; really talking about what was going on with music and ladies in the punk/DIY scenes.
For the first time in a very, very long time I felt the importance of maintaining and actively contributing to the contemporary DIY lady punk scene, and really, just the punk scene in general. No longer did music have to validated by a record contract, but by the overall love of the creative process, which is what I feel I had and many other people around me have forgotten is the overall point to punk music.
Here are the deets on Osa's kickass zine:
